Awards

General

In recognition of appropriate attitude, participation, contribution and achievement during the year, students receive awards and certificates. In the main these include -

  • Sports Certificates: Participation in Zone, Special and Champion of Champions Tournaments;
  • Activity Certificates: Participation in Mathex, Science Week, Speech Competitions, Concerts, Festivals, Exhibitions, Exchanges, Productions and Competitions;
  • Achievement Certificates: Noteworthy achievements in any of the above activities;
  • Special Effort Awards: Noteworthy improvements, for specific pieces of work, for significant contributions to school, syndicate or class activities.

These Awards and Certificates are prepared by Staff members and presented at the Friday Assembly by the duty Student Councillors and teachers.

Honours Awards

The Honours Award, consisting of a special certificate and badge, is awarded to students who display excellent attitude and consistent participation, contribution and achievement in all school activities.

To qualify, students must have consistently displayed the standards as described in the Pasadena Code (see Page 17) and receive a minimum of 10 awards as follows: 2 from Specialist Courses/ Programmes; 2 from Cultural or Arts Activities; 2 for Sport /HPWB Physical; 2 from Classroom Teacher for class work and 2 others. 1 for class HPWB Physical for First Honours only. The 2 others must be from different categories.

Students who believe they have qualified, apply to the Principal with their awards. If the Principal is satisfied the student has the required awards, the student receives an Application Form.

The Applicant must complete a self evaluation – if the Applicant believes he or she has not consistently met any of the standards described in the Pasadena Code, the Applicant should mark the Application Form accordingly and sign.

The Application Form must be taken to each of the following:

    CLASSROOM TEACHER

    TWO SPECIALIST TEACHERS the student is currently working with

    SYNDICATE MANAGER

If a Teacher believes the Applicant has not consistently met any of the standards described in the Pasadena Code, the Teacher will explain this to the Applicant and mark the Application Form accordingly. When the Applicant has met with all Teachers, the Application Form should be returned to the Principal.

If the Applicant’s self evaluation shows or if any of the Teachers have not been satisfied with the student’s performance and have marked the Application Form, the Principal will discuss the matter with the student and set a date one terms hence when the student can reapply.

During their time at Pasadena, students may qualify for and receive more than 1 Honours Award.

For significant or repeated breaches of the Pasadena Code, a student may have their Honours Status removed. A student who has had Honours Status removes is entitled to earn 10 new awards and reapply.

Prize Giving

The Pasadena Intermediate School Annual Prize Giving recognises excellence in student achievement, performance and contribution in all areas of school activity. Prizes awarded include -

  • Class Prizes:  Outstanding Achievement, Performance and Contribution in the Academic, Physical, Arts and Social Dimensions of the Programme
  • Peer's Award:   The one student who, over the course of the year, has made the greatest contribution to the class (Nominated and voted for in a secret ballot by the whole class - 3 stage vote)
  • Sports Awards:   Sports school wide, including excellence in performance, achievement and contribution
  • Arts Awards:   Arts school wide, including excellence in performance, achievement and contribution
  • Chevalier Lodge Citizenship Award and Star of Auckland Lodge Citizenship Award:   one Boy and one Girl recognising outstanding contribution to the school and the community
  • Awards of Merit:   An optional award that recognises a special school wide performance, achievement or contribution not covered by the other awards
  • Principal's Awards:   Approximately twenty Year 8 students who have exhibited excellence in achievement and contribution in the Academic, Physical, Social, Arts and Cultural dimensions over their two years
  • Lightbourne Memorial Shield:   One Year 8 student - The most outstanding student with excellence in  achievement and contribution in the Academic, Physical, Social, Arts and Cultural dimensions over their two years. (Presented by the family of former principal, the late Mr Derek Lightbourne)
