Goals and Objectives
Curriculum
Knowledge
To provide a transdisciplinary and holistic curriculum which emphasizes the unity of knowledge.
Students will:
- Acquire an understanding of the scientific method.
- Acquire a knowledge of the physical world and an appreciation of the interdependence
of all things.
- Gain an understanding of the ethical dimensions of science and technology.
- Acquire knowledge of events and achievements of the past, how they affect the present, and what they may portend for the future.
- Acquire an understanding of world geography and political and economic systems.
- Acquire an understanding of and gain an appreciation for New Zealand’s dual cultural heritage.
- Become aware of, and gain an appreciation for, other world cultures.
- Acquire an appreciation of a broad range of enduring literature.
- Be able to communicate effectively in English/Maori, and be encouraged to be fluent in their mother tongue.
- Gain experience in, and an appreciation for, the visual and performing arts.
- Learn to maintain good mental and physical health.
Skills
To provide a sequential programme of study.
Students will:
- Fully develop the skills of reading, writing, speaking, listening and presenting in English/Maori.
- Utilize quantitative skills and mathematical concepts to compute and solve problems.
- Think logically and creatively, using higher order skills of analysis, comparison, synthesis, evaluation, and application.
- Use and apply technological skills and become information literate.
- Acquire the social, self management and inter personal skills of co-operation, reliability, flexibility, teamwork, time management and leadership.
- Be actively involved in their learning and learn how to learn.
Values/Attitudes
To value learning and acknowledge diversity.
The community will:
- Instill an enduring respect of knowledge, beauty, and clear thinking.
- Promote honesty, fair play and loyalty.
- Develop responsibility for one‘s actions.
- Encourage the development of a well-rounded life style.
- Teach and model a sense of social responsibility.
- Develop an understanding and respect for individual and cultural differences.
Climate
To provide a programme which affirms individuals and builds on the strengths of our multicultural environment.
The school will:
- Recognise the needs of students as paramount.
- Develop an empathy for, and celebrate the cultural diversity which exists in the school.
- Recognize the unique position of Maori in New Zealand Society and the partnership of the Treaty of Waitangi.
- Promote an international outlook and atmosphere.
- Nurture a broad, open-minded, and cosmopolitan world view.
- Promote high academic standards incorporating co-operative learning, academic risk taking and trans-disciplinary involvement.
- Nurture a sense of belonging for all members of the school.
- Provide heterogeneous classes, extension programmes, learning support, ESL, and special services that support the social needs of the students.
- Mainstream all students to the greatest extent possible, while ensuring that their special needs are adequately serviced.
- Inform and engage parents/caregivers and the community in the instructional, enhanced curriculum, extension and learning support programmes of the school.

Assessment
To provide an ongoing assessment of student achievement and programme development that ensures the attainment of the school‘s objectives.
The school will:
- Measure student performance and programme effectiveness in a variety of ways.
- Measure all aspects of student development - academic, physical, artistic and social.
- Involve students in the evaluation of their own performance and growth.
- Provide for timely collaboration between students, parents/caregivers, teachers, managers and the community in the assessment process.
Staff and Administration
To attract and support teachers and managers who will accomplish the school's mission.
The school will:
- Develop curriculum using the best 21st century pedagogy.
- Maintain a properly evaluated and reasonably self-directed faculty and administration, who function within defined guidelines, and work toward the school‘s philosophy and objectives.
- Involve staff in the evaluation of their own performance and growth.
- Maintain a recruitment programme which provides a high level of excellence, maintains an appropriate balance of youth, experience and gender, and supports the enhanced curriculum and learning support programmes objectives of the school.
- Maintain a comprehensive professional development programme which meets individual and school programme needs.
- Develop and maintain an information literate staff and administration.
Facilities
To provide and maintain facilities which meet the goals of all the programmes and to ensure a suitable environment for the accomplishment of the school‘s mission.
The school will
- Provide and maintain facilities for 21st Century Learning.
- Enhance the appearance and environment of the campus.
- Work with the MoE to have all health and safely and high needs provisions completed and new capital works programmed.
- Provide equipment and resources to support the school‘s mission.
Finance
To allocate the available funds to accomplish the school‘s mission.
The school will:
- Maintain a budgetary process which is a collaborative effort between the Board and the school, and which contains costs without jeopardizing the quality of education.
Community Relations
To recognize and strengthen mutually supportive relationships with all sectors of our community.
The school will:
- Involve the community in the strategic planning and operation of the school.
- In partnership with organizations ans support agencies, develop an appropriate range of programmes and services for the school and the community.
- Take advantage of the resources which exist in the area, to supplement and strengthen the school‘s programmes and services.
- Initiate and maintain positive and mutually beneficial relationships with local local educational institutions and schools.
- Support other organizations when their programmes are consistent with the school‘s policies and mission.
- Maintain positive relationships with the MoE, ERO and other regulatory agencies.
